Shawn Carolan

Shawn Carolan is a Partner at Menlo Ventures, where he focuses on early-stage investments across the consumer technology, artificial intelligence, and fintech sectors. Throughout his venture capital career, he has led early investments in prominent technology companies including Uber, Roku, and Siri. Before entering venture capital, Carolan worked as a software developer at Open Port Technology, securing a patent in wire protocols, and later founded the startup Handle. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, alongside an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. In 2021, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Illinois for his startup investing and mentorship. Carolan currently leverages his technical engineering background and entrepreneurial experience to identify early-stage startups developing utilitarian consumer applications.
