EIC Fund

The EIC Fund is a venture capital vehicle owned by the European Commission that makes direct equity investments in high-risk, deep-tech startups located across the European Union. Operating with a €3 billion budget for the 2021-2027 period under the Horizon Europe program, the fund typically takes 10% to 20% minority stakes ranging from €0.5 million to €15 million. It functions by co-investing on a strict 1:1 matching basis alongside private lead investors, with the European Investment Bank advising on the management of its ownership stakes. The organization is guided by board members including Amadeus Capital Partners co-founder Dr. Hermann Hauser, and it had selected 341 companies for equity during its initial pilot phase, resulting in exactly 89 signed deals. The EIC Fund was officially incorporated in June 2020 and was originally founded by the European Commission.
