Tim O'Reilly

Tim O'Reilly is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of O'Reilly Media and a Partner at O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, based in Sebastopol, California. After graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Classics from Harvard University in 1975, he began his career as a technical writer in 1977 before establishing his publishing company in 1983. Under his leadership, the firm launched the first commercial website, popularized industry concepts like open source and Web 2.0, and spun out Maker Media. He also serves on the boards of Safari Books Online and Code for America, while actively investing in early-stage technology startups through his venture capital firm. His current focus centers on the societal impacts of emerging technologies, which he explores through his conference organizing, publishing operations, and his 2017 book on the future of the technology sector.
