Shay Banon

Shay Banon is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Elastic, a prominent enterprise data analytics and search company. His foundational work in search technology originally began in 2004 when he attempted to build a personal recipe application for his wife. This initial software project eventually led him to write the first lines of code for the open-source Elasticsearch platform in 2009. Banon officially established the Elastic corporate entity in 2012 to commercialize this software, successfully scaling the organization into a major global provider of data discovery solutions. Beyond his primary executive duties, he also operates as an active investor targeting emerging technologies within the broader software and search ecosystem. Banon currently focuses on advancing enterprise search capabilities and guiding the ongoing technical development of both commercial and open-source product lines at Elastic.
