Russell Smith

Russell Smith is the San Francisco-based cofounder and former Chief Technology Officer of Rainforest QA, who is currently developing new independent software projects. Relocating from the United Kingdom in 2012, he partnered with Fred Stevens-Smith to launch the software testing platform and subsequently participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2012 batch. During his tenure as the company's CTO, Smith successfully scaled the organization's engineering operations to support a workforce of 130 employees and a commercial client base of 300 customers. Prior to this venture, he operated as an independent consultant advising early-stage technology startups on architecture design, capacity planning, and DevOps implementation, and later attended the Recurse Center in 2022. His technical background centers on building scalable systems, optimizing developer workflows, and advancing continuous integration and deployment methodologies across modern engineering environments.
