NICHOLAS DOWNING

Nicholas Downing is a Managing Director and Partner on the Life Sciences team at Bain Capital in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvard College and earned his medical degree cum laude from the Yale School of Medicine. Before transitioning to private equity and venture investing, he worked as a resident physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and served as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, advising pharmaceutical, hospital, and financial services clients. Since joining Bain Capital in 2018, he has helped direct investments across the healthcare sector, including a 2025 partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb to launch a new immunology therapy company. Downing draws on his clinical background and authorship of over 40 peer-reviewed articles to guide strategic life sciences investments across the broader healthcare ecosystem.
