Sir Michael Moritz is a San Francisco-based venture capitalist who currently focuses on Sequoia Heritage, a wealth-management fund he helped launch after stepping down as a partner at Sequoia Capital in July 2023. Joining the firm in 1986, he spent nearly four decades directing technology investments, eventually elevating to the chairman role in 2012 and securing the number one spot on the annual Midas List in 2006 and 2007. During his extensive tenure, Moritz led early-stage venture funding rounds for major technology enterprises including Google and other prominent startups. He continues to hold active corporate board seats at late-stage private companies such as Stripe and several other consumer platforms. Before entering the venture capital industry, his professional background centered on journalism as a staff writer for Time magazine, where he authored the first published historical account of Apple Inc.
