David Vélez

David Vélez is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nubank, operating out of São Paulo, Brazil. Under his leadership, the digital bank has grown to serve over 120 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, culminating in a December 2021 New York Stock Exchange IPO that initially valued the financial institution at $45 billion. Prior to launching the fintech platform, he served as a Partner at Sequoia Capital, where he directed the firm's Latin American investment group. His earlier career includes investment banking and growth equity roles at Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and General Atlantic, complemented by a Bachelor of Science in Management Science and Engineering and an MBA from Stanford University. Vélez currently focuses on expanding financial inclusion and scaling consumer banking technologies, such as credit cards and loans, throughout the Latin American market.
