David Helgason

David Helgason is the Co-founder and Partner at Transition Ventures and a Board Member at Unity Technologies, currently based near Reykjavík, Iceland. He co-founded Unity in 2004 and served as Chief Executive Officer until 2014, scaling the platform into a dominant game engine powering over 50% of mobile games globally. Following his executive tenure, he remained on the board of directors and helped guide the firm to a $13.7 billion initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in 2020. A former physics student at the University of Copenhagen, he is now an active angel investor who launched Transition Ventures to fund early-stage climate startups like Watershed and Safi. His current professional focus centers on leveraging his extensive software scaling expertise to accelerate deep tech and synthetic biology ventures addressing global warming.
