Calvin French-Owen is a San Francisco Bay Area technology entrepreneur, angel investor, and independent builder who currently advises early-stage startup founders. He studied computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before leaving to co-found the customer data platform Segment in 2011. Serving as Chief Technology Officer for nearly a decade, he scaled the platform to process billions of monthly analytics events and integrate with over 200 software tools before Twilio acquired the company for three point two billion dollars in November 2020. Following this exit, he mentored the 2021 summer cohort as a Visiting Group Partner at Y Combinator and volunteered on vaccine distribution infrastructure with the United States Digital Response. His current focus centers on leveraging his engineering background to invest across the B2B software, developer tools, and enterprise data infrastructure sectors.
