Aston Motes

Aston Motes is the Founder of Assorted Bits and the Interim Executive Director at /dev/color, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his career as the first employee and an early software engineer at Dropbox, building foundational infrastructure that enabled the platform to scale into a public company with a multibillion-dollar valuation. Prior to his startup career, he earned a Computer Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Motes subsequently founded Assorted Bits, a technology startup that participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2012 batch. He later joined /dev/color, a Y Combinator Winter 2016 nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Black software engineers, where he has also served as an Engineer in Residence. His current focus centers on software engineering, early-stage product development, and expanding diversity within the broader technology ecosystem.
